Where Sea Meets the Vine
The Plot
About 70 km from our estate, by the sea, Carro De La Mata is born.
This wine is the child of a unique landscape, a gift from one of the few pre-phylloxera vineyards still surviving in Europe, planted on un-grafted rootstock in a place as special as it is fragile: the Las Lagunas de La Mata Natural Park, in Torrevieja.
Here, in this protected corner where migratory birds find refuge and nature still sets the pace, we cultivate Moscatel of Alexandria as an act of resistance and beauty.
Under the brilliant Mediterranean light, surrounded by salt flats, siliceous sands, and constant sea breezes, each grape cluster captures the essence of its surroundings: salinity, resilience, and character.
The result is a white wine that is rich, complex, and deeply saline, transporting us to ancient civilizations like the Phoenicians, so closely tied to the sea.
Style
A white wine with the soul of a landscape.
Bright, vertical, and honest. No makeup, just Moscatel in its purest form, expressing what only a handful of vineyards in the world can offer.
Wine Making
Manual harvest in small 20kg crates prior to strict table selection. Grapes destemmed but not crushed. Whole bunches introduced directly into Juan Padilla clay amphora. 30 days maceration with skins. Skins then removed, without pressing. Free run juice returned to amphora for further 6 months ageing under naturally occuring subtle cap of flor.
Tasting Note
Carro De La Mata is pure Mediterranean. On the nose, intense yet delicate, with notes of white flowers, stone fruit, citrus peel, wild chamomile, and aromatic herbs.
On the palate, it explodes with flavour: vibrant entry, crisp acidity, tense texture, and a saline core that lingers on the finish, leaving an unforgettable mineral trace.
Pairing
Perfect with everything the sea has to offer when cooked with soul: seafood, rice dishes, pickled foods, Japanese cuisine, or a fine soft cheese. Or simply open a bottle slowly, close your eyes, and feel the sea without leaving home.
