About us

We are Marta and Andrés, the people behind Casa Balaguer. We met while studying oenology at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, and since then we’ve shared a vision: that the purest wine comes from living soil. We didn’t just want to make wine. We wanted to create a place, an ecosystem. A space where nature, animals, and people coexist in harmony. That’s how this project was born, and over the years, it has become our way of life.

We began in 2008 with a small warehouse in an industrial area of Villena, a few hectares, and a lot of passion. Over time, that first step grew into something much bigger, our life project. In 2018, we were able to acquire a 19th-century estate, which we’ve slowly restored and transformed into what is now Casa Balaguer: a corner of the inland Mediterranean where vines grow at their own pace, animals roam freely, and every bottle reflects the soul of the land it comes from.

Our daily work revolves around a clear goal: to craft organic and biodynamic wines and olive oils that speak of our origins, beliefs, and way of understanding the land. We work with local grape varieties, respect natural cycles, and are committed to regenerative and self-sufficient agriculture. Because what drives us isn’t just making quality products, it’s doing so responsibly.

We want our estate to be more than just a beautiful place. Our dream is to turn it into a true haven of biodiversity and life, a benchmark of sustainability, a model proving that agriculture can be productive, sustainable… and respectful of the planet.

There are things that define us, and we’re not willing to compromise on them:

Real sustainability, not just a label. We care for the soil, water, and air with certified organic and biodynamic practices.

· Calidad sin atajos. Cada paso, desde el viñedo hasta la botella, lo hacemos con mimo y transparencia.

Authenticity without filters. We work with traditional grape varieties and techniques passed down through generations, even dating back to the Phoenicians and Iberians, without being swayed by trends or gimmicks.

Absolute respect for animals. Many have been rescued and are now a vital part of our ecosystem.

From Organic to Biodynamic Viticulture: A Path of Evolution and AwarenessDe la Viticultura Ecológica a la Biodinámica: Un Camino de Evolución y Conciencia.

After years of cultivating our vineyards following organic principles, respecting soil life, avoiding chemicals, and protecting biodiversity, we realized we could go further. This insight pushed us to take a deeper step: to transform our vineyard into a truly living organism, in balance with itself and its environment.

That’s how we discovered and embraced biodynamic agriculture: a way of farming where soil, plants, animals, humans, and cosmic forces interact harmoniously. Inspired by the teachings of Rudolf Steiner (1861–1925), an Austrian philosopher, scientist, and founder of biodynamic agriculture, this practice views the farm as a living organism, aligned with nature’s rhythms and the cosmos, and deeply connected to the health of the soil, plants, animals, and human beings. It integrates agricultural knowledge with a spiritual understanding of the natural world, recognizing that everything is interconnected and that cosmic rhythms directly influence the vitality of the vines.

Today, we cultivate our estate by aligning our work with lunar and planetary cycles, applying biodynamic preparations made from herbs, minerals, and manure, and actively enriching biodiversity. We plant diverse species, encourage microbial life in the soil, and foster an ecosystem where every element has its role and value.

Why Do Our Certifications Matter?

At Casa Balaguer, we’ve been working under audits, inspections, and rigorous controls for over 10 years. Not because we enjoy making things more complicated, well, maybe a little, but because we believe transparency is the foundation of trust.

We are officially certified in Organic Agriculture by the CAECV (Organic Farming Committee of the Valencian Community) and in Biodynamic Agriculture by Demeter, the most demanding international body for this type of farming.

And this isn’t just a pretty label on the bottle. It’s the result of a real commitment.
It means that everything we do on our estate, from the fertilizer we use to how we treat the soil, the vines, the water, the animals, and even the workers, is held to the highest standards of sustainability, health, and respect.

We are also one of the few Spanish wineries that are part of La Renaissance des Appellations, an international collective that defends soulful wines, honest and deeply rooted in their origin.

Por eso, formar parte de La Renaissance des Appellations no es un simple mérito. Es una responsabilidad. Y también, un orgullo.

This international group, founded by the renowned winemaker Nicolas Joly, brings together winegrowers from around the world who share a common belief: that wine should be a sincere expression of the place it comes from, not a standardized product shaped by trends or manipulation.

We are one of only 11 Spanish wineries that have been accepted as members.
And believe us, you don’t get in just by applying. You get in with facts, with rigorous work, and with awareness..

And believe us, you don’t get in just by applying. You get in with facts, with rigorous work, and with awareness. Above all, you get in with a clear philosophy: true origin isn’t imposed with a label, it’s earned through authenticity.

That’s exactly what La Renaissance des Appellations stands for:

-Wines born from living soils, not formulas
-Winegrowers who understand the land as a living being, not as a factory
-A way of making wine where biodynamics is not a trend, but a commitment
